Rockwell Collins Develops First Military Survey System for Fielded Precision Lightweight GPS Receivers

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (October 17, 2001) - Rockwell Collins has developed its first military survey system for handheld Collins Precision Lightweight Global Positioning System Receivers (PLGR and PLGR II).

With the military survey system, users can easily map locations down to centimeter level accuracies. The lightweight, portable system can be used with currently fielded Collins PLGR systems at a minimal investment.

Collins PLGR family of products have become the U.S. Department of Defense and international military code portable GPS receiver standard. Collins PLGR, first introduced in 1993, is a low-cost entry receiver into the GPS handheld market offering users five channel, single frequency capability. The second-generation receiver, PLGR II, features increased performance and integrity, and improved jamming resistance. Collins PLGR II’s all-in-view, dual-frequency and fast acquisition capabilities enhance the receiver’s ability to acquire satellite signals quickly, and to continue tracking satellites despite jamming or signal blockage.
